Illegal subletting and housing fraud

Subletting council homes is a criminal offence and Brent Housing Partnership (BHP) evicts tenants who are found to be illegally subletting.

It is a criminal offence for tenants to sublet their council home. If you are found to be subletting your property you could face prison and a fine.  Brent Housing Partnership (BHP) with Brent Council’s Fraud Team are working together to crack down on tenants who we suspect are unlawfully subletting their homes.

You could be prosecuted and face up to two years in prison and/or an unlimited fine. We can also recover any profit that you had made through illegally subletting your home.
