Dedicated community representatives celebrated at Christmas Gala Dinner hosted by Residents’ Network Group

Resident representatives from across Brent hosted a community Christmas Gala Dinner at the Wembley International Hotel on Friday night, to thank involved residents for their contributions throughout the year, and to celebrate their achievements in the Brent community.

The event was organised by the Residents’ Network Group (RNG), which is made up of council tenant and leaseholder representatives. The group organises events throughout the year to boost resident involvement in Brent and to recognise achievements of hardworking individuals who put the community first. They are also in the process of delivering hampers to council tenants who are over 90 years old.

The event last week included guest speakers Carolyn Downs, Chief Executive of Brent Council and Peter Nugent a young Brent resident who was the Chair of the Brent Housing Youth Board. Both spoke about the importance of housing and community involvement.

As well as speeches, there was a traditional Christmas dinner, a celebration ceremony to recognise residents’ contributions in the community, a raffle draw and a lively disco with traditional Christmas songs.

Grace Koroma-Sesay, a council tenant who attended the celebration said: “Thank you so much for the Christmas Gala Dinner, it was fantastic and glorious…It was a very good atmosphere and an evening to remember.”

Farida Adjerit, a council tenant who is a member of the Residents’ Network Group and was leading on the celebration event said: “The event was to recognise the work of our active Brent Housing residents, to get in the festive spirit and strengthen close relationships with Brent Housing officers and our local councillors. I am so glad that our Christmas Gala achieved just that. The positive feedback was so overwhelming that we can't wait to repeat this again next year.”

Christina Byrne, Community Leadership Manager at Brent Housing said: “The event was so well organised and all my colleagues and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. These events where all residents come together are so important to get everyone involved and greatly reduces isolation. We look forward to working with the RNG and supporting their valuable work in the community to empower residents and help shape our services.”
